FAQ's:
Why are CHEK.R.POINTS round "dots" instead of "squares" or "diamonds"? The reflective area is comparable, but “Diamonds” have corners that are prone to hooking and subject to damage from power washers. "Squares" take longer to install because the flat edge must be perfectly lined up with the entire row and also are more difficult to center in the "check" in order to avoid "tenting" on the raised area of the plate.
What products are best to produce the reflective “dots”? Some suppliers use glass-bead reflective sheeting suffering in reflective power that cannot be compared with the new prismatic “Conspicuity” grade which is often 8X brighter over a much longer distance. This is the same product used for the 6" rolls and is always used in CHEK.R.POINTS. Reflexite is often used because it is thinner and of closed-cell construction. 3M Diamond Grade can be used but must be heat-sealed, normally raising the cost of production.
Why are "CHEK.R.POINTS" not pre-masked in strips that can be installed in a complete row instead of individually? There are several configurations and even irregularities in diamond checker plate. When several points are applied in-line together, there are invariably points that touch the raised sections of the plate and any misalignment carries over to the next points. This is not acceptable for proper adhesion. The little extra time required to apply individual CHEK.R.POINTS is definitely worth the effort.
Does it take longer to install "CHEK.R.POINTS" than 6" rolls of sheeting? The process appears longer when installing points, but one must not forget that no professional installer is required. Therefore installation costs can be lower. Consider also that to do a perfect installation of roll sheeting usually requires either very fine trimming or the lifting of hardware which requires additional time and the services of a professional installer. When installing CHEK.R.POINTS, if there is any obstacle on the plate, simply stop the row of points before the obstacle. No trimming or lifting of hardware.
