9. HOW TO ORDER DOT TAPE WITH YOUR LOGO?

It is logical that transporters be allowed to market their own brand or name on the sides of their trailers. Trailer manufacturers take advantage of this marketing strategy to market their own logo on the DOT segments on YOUR trailers. Many OEM’s have cooperated by allowing their clients to market their own brand by using personalized DOT conspicuity tape.

To flaunt your “own” name effectively:

  1. Keep your logo simple. The “cleanest” logos have the most impact. People don’t “read the information on the tape…they “remember” the image!

  2. Combine two different logos or names on the tape segments!

NEGOTIATE YOUR REQUEST EARLY WITH YOUR OEM!

  • To avoid disappointments for both you and your OEM, you should negotiate the upgrade to personalized tape BEFORE you sign your contract for new trailers. It should be in your SPECIFICATIONS in your RFQ.

  • Please consider the fact that installing “customized tape” on your new trailers is not easy for the OEM and in fact, complicates established procedures.

  • You have the option to “spec” 100% lateral coverage instead of the standard 50%. (see the following section “Advantages to spec 100%...)

  • You must allow at least 4-6 weeks for production and delivery AFTER your graphic approval has been completed.

  • You must respect the minimum quantities required for customized logo tape. At present, Avery requires 20 rolls, 3M requires 50 rolls, Reflexite 105 rolls.

SECURITRIM OFFERS 2 OPTIONS FOR YOU AND YOUR OEM!

OPTION A: OEM PURCHASES YOUR LOGO TAPE

  • Your OEM may prefer to purchase YOUR “personalized” tape directly from Securitrim at OEM pricing, instead of you purchasing it and deducting its value from the cost of your trailers.

This eliminates many problems:

  • The OEM receives “your” tape at their “receiving”, on the exact date required, directly from Securitrim.

  • The OEM controls “their” own inventory.

  • The OEM has no monetary disadvantage in purchasing “your” logo tape from Securitrim (OEM pricing) and should not up-charge you.

PURCHASE ORDER FROM THE CLIENT

  • To ensure that the production of your logo tape is produced ON TIME, you should provide Securitrim with a PURCHASE ORDER, at the agreed retail price, for AT LEAST THE MINIMUM number of rolls required to order customized tape. Your purchase order will authorize Securitrim to START PRODUCTION of the “custom tape” order while waiting for your OEM to provide their own P/O for the number of rolls they require @ wholesale OEM pricing.

PURCHASE ORDER FROM YOUR OEM

  • Your OEM will send to Securitrim a purchase order @ wholesale pricing for the exact number rolls they need to stripe your new trailers. If the number of rolls they need is less than the minimum required for a custom “logo” production, your purchase order will include the number of rolls required to reach this minimum.

  • Securitrim will produce TWO INVOICES and do TWO SHIPMENTS to complete your original purchase order. (One to the OEM for the exact quantity of rolls for your new trailers, and one to you for the balance on your original purchase order. In this situation, you are only responsible for payment of the rolls sent to you.)

ADVANTAGES FOR YOU TO ORDER MORE THAN THE MINIMUM

  • You can “stock” a small quantity of logo tape for your maintenance programs and have them available in your different terminals. All repairs will now flaunt your own name!

  • The OEM may have an urgent need for a roll or two OVER and ABOVE his own original purchase order. Once any order is placed for logo tape and production has begun, it cannot be increased at a later date without RE-ORDERING THE MINIMUM AGAIN.

  • Securitrim can often drop ship the required rolls directly to your OEM and the balance to you or your terminals.

OPTION B: YOU ORDER THE ENTIRE NUMBER OF ROLLS AND ARRANGE FOR THE OEM TO INSTALL YOUR LOGO TAPE

  • This is like sending a “decal package” or personalized mud-flaps to your OEM. But you must negotiate your personalized tape value with the OEM’s logo tape value and agree on a compensation to have your tape installed.

  • Securitrim may be able to “drop-ship” your rolls to the OEM.

TYPICAL SCENARIO:

  • You (Client) purchases 15 new trailers from the OEM who agrees to install personalized logo tape. A decision must be made to install 100% (full rolls) or 50% (rolls Kiss Cut to OEM’s specs);

  • Your OEM decides to purchase, directly from Securitrim. the exact number of rolls of “your” personalized tape for your new trailers.

  1. You send a P/O for 20 rolls (minimum with Avery) of logo tape to Securitrim at the agreed upon retail pricing. This P/O authorizes Securitrim start production of your “custom” order (6 weeks after graphic approvals);

  2. Your OEM sends a P/O to Securitrim for 8 rolls (number required to do 15 trailers @ 50%) @ wholesale pricing. These 8 rolls will be subtracted from your order of 20 and you won’t be responsible for payment;

  3. When the custom tape is delivered to the OEM, Securitrim invoices the OEM for 8 rolls @ OEM pricing;

  4. When the balance of the original 20 rolls (20 less 8) is delivered to you (12), Securitrim invoices you for the remaining 12 rolls at your agreed retail pricing. Your original P/O of 20 rolls was filled partially to the OEM (8 rolls) and partially to you (the 12 remaining rolls).

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO HAVE YOUR PERSONALIZED LOGO TAPE ON YOUR NEW TRAILERS:

  1. Send your logo to info@securitrim.com (preference .ai or .eps file)

  2. We will provide a ‘’no-charge’’ layout for your examination and approval.

  3. Once you approve this layout, and you have confirmed that your OEM will accept the installation of your personalized tape, Securitrim can provide you with a physical prototype ‘’no-charge’’ (Avery only) for your examination and approval. Neither 3M nor Reflexite can provide a physical prototype.

  4. Once approved, and you have confirmation from your OEM that they will install your tape and they know that they can purchase the rolls they require directly from Securitrim, you must provide a purchase order for at least the minimum number of rolls for a ‘’custom’’ production (20 rolls Avery, 50 rolls 3M, 105 rolls Reflexite). You can order more than these minims for your maintenance programs over the next year.

  5. Securitrim will fill your OEM’s purchase order using the rolls from your original purchase order (if they want to buy directly from Securitrim). Or if your agreement allows you to simply supply your own rolls to your OEM, we will invoice the total number of rolls in your P/O to you.

  6. Securitrim can ship your personalized tape to you or directly to the OEM for installation on your new trailers.

  7. Allow an average of 4 to 6 weeks for production.

SHOULD I SPEC 100% (instead of 50% minimum) LATERAL COVERAGE IMMEDIATELY?

  • The “standard installation package” for most OEM’s is 50% coverage, and their rolls are ordered “Kiss-Cut” in segments of the length they’re installed (12”, 18” or 24”). That is probably what was calculated in the bid.

  • Securitrim cannot mix full rolls and Kiss-Cut rolls in the SAME order. However, two separate orders for the minimum number of rolls required of each can be placed if you require both full rolls AND Kiss-cut rolls.

  • This is why many transporters specify “personalized” tape 100% coverage. Per trailer, this only adds 52 EXTRA feet of red/white tape, and consequently, a very MINIMAL up-charge. This way, all rolls, whether for your new trailers or your maintenance programs will be full rolls, and not cut rolls.

  • It may be easier for the OEM to install full lengths instead of up to 26 “sections”

  • Your corporate identity has a much higher visual impact

  • The safety factor (lateral visibility at night) is nearly doubled

  • You retain any balance of the original order in full rolls (instead of Kiss-Cut rolls that the OEM’s normally use) for your maintenance.
