10. HOW TO ORDER PRE-FABRICATED CHEVRON KITS?

Save time in installation and maintain consistent appearance for fleets.

It is important to understand the advantages of pre-cuts before deciding to order them.

PRE-FABRICATED CHEVRON PANELS & KITS

Auto CAD plans can be used if precise pre-cutting is required. Handles, hinges, light recesses can all be pre-cut.

However, precise dimensions on drawings can be used if the panel is first installed on a smooth section before hardware & lights are installed.

Ideally, a precisely cut paper template, traced from the vehicle itself, will ensure a perfect fit when scanned into the computer. This must, however, take into consideration compound bends that require adjustments and that is why it is preferable to do a “trial kit” in cheap vinyl to insure proper fitting before constructing the prismatic chevrons.

It is preferable to have one side of the panel and the overall length (height) of the panel slightly “oversize” to permit adjustments on the apparatus during installation. The extra height will allow alignment of the adjacent panel so that the 45 degree chevrons line up. Simply cut off the few inches above or below once both sides are in place.

PRE-FABRICATED CHEVRONS OVER ROLL-UP DOORS.

This process requires a computer generated set-up and so is less cost efficient for a single door. It does however, save installation time and avoids any “Exacto” blade contact with the Roll-up door.

When ordering a pre-fabricated kit for a roll-up door, exact measurements are required. Chevrons should end at least ¼ inch before the exterior edges (do not install them under the rubber gasket in the tracks on the left and right sides. It is critical to know the exact width of each slat and the distance between the slats (usually standard on many makes of doors) so that the proper spacing can be left during production.

PRE-FABRICATED CHEVRONS FOR FLEETS

If we know the exact model and year of vehicle, Securitrim can do the initial prototype for you. This is however subject to an initial charge since the layout must be done physically and on the computer. Computer programs that have vehicle specs are not accurate enough to product a layout that takes into consideration the compound bends that must be dealt with using prismatic sheeting.
